The William Morris Gallery will soon open a special exhibition William Morris and Art from the Islamic World, running from November 9, to March 9, 2025.
It is the first exhibition to explore the influence of art from the Islamic world on William Morris and his designs.
Known for his key role in the Arts and Crafts movement, Morris was inspired by Islamic art's intricate patterns, particularly those found in textiles, ceramics, and metalwork, many of which he collected.
His designs for wallpaper, fabrics, and carpets show how he used these motifs and techniques in British interiors.
The exhibition includes more than 60 pieces from Morris's personal collection, now homed in places like the British Library and the Fitzwilliam Museum.
Visitors will find Morris’s own work alongside these Islamic artifacts, offering a fresh perspective on the origins of his aesthetic.
Location: William Morris Gallery, Lloyd Park, Forest Road, Walthamstow, London, E17 4PP
